We tell ourselves that it’s too late to change or that we don’t deserve a second chance. The Quran directly addresses this feeling, reminding us never to give up on the vastness of Divine Mercy.

The Concept of Rahmah The central theme of this lesson is Rahmah. According to the Glossary of Islamic Terms, Rahmah means “mercy,” “compassion,” or “grace.” It is the most frequently mentioned attribute of the Creator in the Quran. We are taught that the Creator is ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful) and ar-Rahim (The Especially Merciful). Despairing of this mercy is actually a misunderstanding of who the Creator is. To lose hope is to doubt the infinite capacity of the Divine to forgive.

The Power of Tawba The way back from any mistake is through Tawba. The glossary defines Tawba as “repentance” or, more literally, “returning.” It is the act of turning back toward the light after being in the dark. The beauty of Tawba is that it erases the past and allows for a completely new beginning. In Islam, a person who sincerely repents from a sin is like someone who never committed it at all. This constant opportunity for a “reset” is a source of immense Sakina (tranquillity).

Winning Through Hope In the spiritual sense, a “loser” is not someone who makes a mistake, but someone who allows that mistake to make them stop trying. Success is found in Raja’, which the glossary defines as “hope.” Having Raja’ means you always believe in the possibility of a better tomorrow because you trust in al-Ghaffar (The Repeatedly Forgiving). This hope gives you the strength to fix your Khuluq (character) and continue your journey with dignity.

Let’s Find the Path Together At Diálogo Rahmah, we know that guilt can be a heavy burden to carry. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed by your past or your shortcomings. We offer a safe, non-judgmental space to discuss how to find hope and healing through the concept of Divine Mercy.

Do you feel held back by your past, or do you find it hard to forgive yourself? We invite you to a free, private conversation with a Muslim expert.
