Guidance is not for free

02

What does it cost to find the truth?
In Islam, finding spiritual guidance does not cost money, but it is not free. The “price” is your sincerity and your willingness to change. The Quran teaches that wisdom is not just information you read; it is a light that only enters a heart that is ready to receive it.

Information vs. Transformation
We live in an age of information overload. We can Google anything in seconds. Because of this, we often expect spiritual answers to be just as quick and easy. We want a “life hack” for inner peace.

However, the second lesson of the Quran establishes a ground rule immediately. It states that this Book is a “guide for the righteous” (Quran 2:2). This means the map only makes sense if you are actually willing to walk the path.

Who are “The Righteous”?
The Arabic word used here is Muttaqun. In the glossary of Islamic terms, this describes people who are pious, who love God, and who abstain from evil deeds.

But there is a simpler way to understand it: Being on Guard.

Think of it like driving a car. A driver who is “on guard” is alert, careful, and watching the road. A driver who is careless ignores the signs. The lesson here is that if you approach life carelessly—ignoring your conscience and acting arrogantly—you will be blind to the truth, even if it is right in front of you.

The Entry Fee is Your Effort
Guidance requires action. You cannot wait for a sign to force you to be a better person. You have to take the first step towards being a better person, and then the guidance becomes clear.

If you are arrogant, the door remains closed. If you are humble and seeking, the door opens.
