Catholics believe that the Holy Spirit appeared as a real man to Mary and had sexual relations with her to conceive the Son of God. They believe that Mary is greater than Christ and that Christ is the Son of God, not God Himself, and that He has two natures and two wills, which can be in conflict.

Catholics also believe that the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son. Because of this, Orthodox Christians do not marry Catholics, do not pray in their churches, do not take communion from their priests, and do not bury their dead with them, as they consider Catholics to be outside the Christian faith, or heretics.

If someone changes their denomination from Orthodoxy to Catholicism, their marriage is annulled. Catholics then baptise the person again because they do not recognise the validity of Orthodox priesthood, and the reverse is true as well.
