What is the cure for inner conflict?
In Islam, peace is not just a feeling; it is a state of being “all in.” The Quran teaches that you cannot find serenity if you are only doing the right thing halfway. True submission means bringing your whole self—your public life, your private life, and your inner thoughts—into alignment with the good.
The Exhaustion of Half-Measures
Many people feel stressed because they are living fragmented lives. We might be kind at home but ruthless at work. We might be honest with friends but cheat on our taxes. We try to pick and choose which rules to follow based on what is easy.
This creates a mental war. We are constantly negotiating with our own conscience.
Understanding “Wholehearted Submission”
The lesson from the second section (Juz) of the Quran invites people to “Enter into submission, wholeheartedly” (Quran 2:208).
The Arabic word used here is related to Islam and Salam (Peace). In the glossary of Islamic terms, Islam is defined as “submission to the will of Allah.” But this specific lesson emphasizes the word Kaffah, which means “completely” or “in totality.”
The logic is simple: You cannot have partial peace. You cannot partially surrender. To find true rest, you must stop fighting the truth and surrender to it completely.
Don’t Follow the Footsteps
The verse warns against following the “footsteps of Satan.” This is a powerful image. It implies that bad decisions do not happen all at once. They happen step by step. We make a small compromise today, and a slightly bigger one tomorrow.
To submit completely means refusing to take that first step away from your integrity. It means rejecting the “footsteps” of bad habits before they take you off the path.
Finding Your Center
Living a life of total integrity is the ultimate freedom. It means you no longer have to hide parts of yourself or remember lies. You are the same person everywhere you go.
