The Myth of the Passive Life<\/strong> It\u2019s easy to feel like we are just “passengers” in life, waiting for someone else to make the big decisions or fix the world\u2019s problems. We often say, “I’m not in charge,” as a way to avoid the weight of responsibility. However, this mindset leads to a sense of powerlessness and stagnation. Real growth begins when you realize that while you cannot control everything, you are the “manager” of the world that exists around you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Concept of Mas\u2019uliyah<\/strong> The Islamic view of responsibility is summed up in the word Mas\u2019uliyah<\/strong>. According to the Glossary of Islamic Terms<\/em>, this refers to “accountability” or “responsibility.” The Prophet Muhammad \ufdfa famously said, “Every one of you is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock.” This means that leadership is distributed. A parent is a leader in the home; a student is a leader of their own time; an employee is a leader of their specific tasks. In the eyes of the Creator, no one is “just a nobody.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leadership as Amanah<\/strong> In Islam, authority or influence of any kind is an Amanah<\/strong>. The glossary defines Amanah<\/strong> as a “trust” or something given to you to be looked after faithfully. When you view your roles as a trust from al-Malik<\/strong> (The Sovereign), you stop looking for the perks of the position and start focusing on the duties. This shifts your motivation from seeking Jah<\/strong> (status) to seeking Ihsan<\/strong> (excellence). You lead by serving and by being the first to embody the values you want to see in others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Peace of Ownership<\/strong> Stepping into your role as a responsible leader brings a profound sense of Sakina<\/strong> (tranquillity). You no longer feel like a victim of circumstances; you feel like an active participant in your destiny. You find peace in knowing that you are doing your part, however small it may seem. This sense of Taqwa<\/strong> (mindfulness) in your duties protects you from the stress of trying to control others and focuses your energy on where it matters most: your own actions and influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
