It is very easy to look at someone else’s life and think, “Why don’t I have that?” This feeling can lead to resentment and a loss of peace. The Quran addresses this directly by advising us to stop wishing for the specific blessings that have been given to others.

Understanding Your Provision In Islamic teaching, everything a person possesses—whether it is wealth, talent, or opportunity—is known as Rizq. According to the Glossary of Islamic Terms, Rizq is “provision” or the “sustenance” provided by the Creator. A key belief is that your Rizq is written for you and no one can take it away, just as you cannot take away what is written for someone else. When we envy others, we are essentially doubting that there is enough for everyone.

Healing the Heart from Envy Wishing for the downfall of someone’s blessing or feeling bitter about their success is known as Hasad (envy). The remedy for Hasad is Qana’a, which the glossary defines as “contentment” or being satisfied with what one has. Qana’a doesn’t mean you stop working hard or dreaming big; it means you stop measuring your worth by someone else’s yardstick. It is the realization that your journey is tailor-made for your growth.

The Beauty of Gratitude When we stop looking sideways at others, we finally have the focus to look at the blessings right in front of us. This shift in perspective is part of Shukr, or “gratitude.” By practicing Shukr, we acknowledge that our current situation has its own unique wisdom. We begin to trust that the Creator knows exactly what we need and when we need it.

Let’s Find the Path Together At Diálogo Rahmah, we know how difficult it can be to stay positive in a world built on competition. We offer a friendly space to talk about finding inner peace and handling the pressures of modern life.

Do you struggle with comparison or want to know more about the concept of “Destiny” in Islam? We invite you to a free, private conversation with a Muslim expert.
