In this worldly life, many people pursue immediate pleasures without paying attention to the abundant rewards that Allah (God) has prepared for them in the Hereafter. As Allah has designated this life as a prototype to another, our actions determine our destiny here.
We strive to attain the reward of the Hereafter, the paradise promised by Allah to His believing servants.
Some may envision paradise as a place filled with gold, silver, and luxurious clothing, but the reality is much more profound. It is a realm of eternal happiness and joy, without sorrow, fear, or illness.
Allah Almighty balances this world with the Hereafter in the Quran, saying: “So whatever you have been given is but (a passing) enjoyment for this worldly life, but that which is with Allâh (Paradise) is better and more lasting for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism) and put their trust in their Lord (concerning all of their affairs).” (Quran Translation, Surat Ash-Shura, 36)
In a hadith narrated by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Allah says: “I have prepared for my righteous servants what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived.” (Sahih Bukhari, Book 76, Hadith 577)
Regardless of our perceptions of the Hereafter, they are severely lacking, and we cannot fully comprehend its bliss. Even the beauty we observe in nature around us is just a small part of indicating the creator’s massive power, overtaking the beauty seen in creatures, trees, seas, and all colours.
Let us, during this series, discuss some of the characteristics of paradise that Allah has prepared for His believing servants.
