The Fragility of Superficial Bonds<\/strong> Relationships built on worldly benefits\u2014like status, money, or the need for constant validation\u2014are inherently unstable. When those benefits disappear, the relationship often turns into resentment. We\u2019ve all seen “best friends” become strangers or partners become enemies. Without a shared moral compass, human relationships become a game of “what can I get from you,” leading to the inevitable feeling of being used or let down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Concept of Taqwa in Relationships<\/strong> In the Glossary of Islamic Terms<\/em>, Taqwa<\/strong> is defined as “mindfulness of Allah” or “protecting oneself from His displeasure.” When a relationship is based on Taqwa<\/strong>, both people realize they are accountable to al-Raqib<\/strong> (The Watchful) for how they treat one another. This means you are kind even when you are angry, you are honest even when it\u2019s difficult, and you fulfill your promises because you fear the Creator, not just because you fear losing the person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Warning of the Quran<\/strong> The Quran gives a stark warning: “Friends on that Day will be enemies to each other, except the Muttaqun<\/strong> (those who have Taqwa).” This means that on the Day of Judgment, every relationship that pulled you away from your values or was built on falsehood will become a source of Hasrah<\/strong> (regret). Only the relationships that were built for the sake of the Haqq<\/strong> (Truth) will survive and bring joy. This is why al-Hubb fillah<\/strong> (love for the sake of Allah) is considered the strongest of bonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Peace of Healthy Boundaries<\/strong> Building relationships on Taqwa<\/strong> brings a deep sense of Sakina<\/strong> (tranquillity). You no longer have to “perform” to keep someone’s love, because your relationship is based on shared principles, not a search for approval. You find Salam<\/strong> (peace) in knowing that you are being treated with justice and mercy. This focus makes you Thabit<\/strong> (steadfast) in your loyalty, and it allows you to let go of toxic connections that threaten your spiritual and mental well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
