The Burden of Permanent Regret<\/strong> One of the most heavy burdens a human can carry is the feeling of permanent regret. We often tell ourselves, “I’ve made too many mistakes,” or “It\u2019s too late for me to change.” This mindset can lead to a cycle of despair that prevents us from ever trying to improve. However, Islamic tradition offers a powerful remedy for this: the concept that the opportunity for a new beginning never expires as long as we are alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Meaning of Returning<\/strong> This process of returning to a state of goodness is called Tawba<\/strong>. According to the Glossary of Islamic Terms<\/em>, Tawba<\/strong> literally means “turning” or “returning.” It is the act of turning away from a mistake and returning toward the Creator. It isn\u2019t just about saying “I\u2019m sorry”; it is a sincere internal shift where a person feels regret, stops the harmful action, and resolves not to go back to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Infinite Forgiveness<\/strong> A central part of this journey is understanding one of the most beautiful Names of God: al-Ghafur<\/strong>. The glossary defines this as “The All-Forgiving.” This name reminds us that the nature of the Divine is to forgive. In Islam, there is no “point of no return.” No matter how far someone has wandered, the moment they seek Tawba<\/strong>, they are met with mercy rather than judgment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hope as a Foundation<\/strong> This teaching is deeply connected to our Iman<\/strong>, or faith. True Iman<\/strong> involves having hope in the mercy of the Creator even when we are disappointed in ourselves. By practicing Tawba<\/strong>, we are not just fixing a mistake; we are strengthening our spiritual resilience. We learn that our past does not have to define our future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
