We as humans are limited creatures with a finite lifespan that we do not know its extent. During this lifespan, we start weak (in childhood), then we grow stronger (in youth), and then we return to weakness again (in old age).
Allah has informed us about this reality in His book, saying: “Allah is He Who created you in (a state of) weakness, then gave you strength after weakness, then after strength gave (you) weakness and grey hair. He creates what He wills. And it is He Who is the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful (i.e. Able to do all things).”
(Quran Translation; Surat Ar-Rum, Sign 54).
These stages, in which strength is surrounded by weakness, and the greying and weakness that a person experiences, cannot be radically changed or reversed (such as starting as adults and then becoming younger or remaining alive forever). It is a sign of the greatness of the Creator, Allah, the One, the Sustainer forever.
There is another indication that no matter how long a person’s life is, it is short. It is a test for us to find guidance to our creator, to believe in Him, to worship Him alone, and to perform righteous deeds that please Him.
He will reward us with His gardens in the hereafter, where we do not age, shrink, grow old, or die again. We will remain alive in eternal life that never ends.
