Relinquish control of the situation

The Burden of the Steering Wheel We carry a tremendous amount of stress because we believe we are the ones in total control. We feel responsible for every outcome—the success of our projects, the behavior of our children, and the security of our future. When things don’t go exactly as we planned, we experience a “loss of control” that feels like a personal failure. This need to control is one of the primary roots of modern anxiety.

The Concept of Tafwid The spiritual remedy for this exhaustion is Tafwid. According to the Glossary of Islamic Terms, Tafwid refers to “entrusting” or “delegating” one’s affairs to the Creator. It is the act of saying, “I have done my part, and now I leave the matter to You.” This isn’t a sign of weakness; it is an act of high intelligence. You are handing the situation over to al-Wakil (The Trustee/The Disposer of Affairs), who never tires and never makes a mistake.

Trusting the Divine Flow Relinquishing control is the practical application of Tawakkul (reliance). The glossary explains that Tawakkul is a state of the heart that remains calm even when the physical world is in chaos. When you practice Tafwid, you move from a state of “fighting” reality to a state of Taslim, which means “submission” or “total surrender.” You realize that while you are the driver of your effort, the Creator is the designer of the road.

The Peace of the Present When you let go of the need to control the outcome, you are finally free to focus on the present moment. This brings a deep sense of Sakina (tranquillity). You no longer feel the need to predict the future or fix the past. You trust that whether the door opens or closes, it is part of a plan that is Khayr (good) for your soul. You find that by “letting go,” you actually gain the only kind of control that matters: control over your own peace of mind.

Let’s Find the Path Together At 拉赫马对话, we know that surrendering control is one of the hardest spiritual lessons to learn. It feels risky and counter-intuitive. We offer a supportive and non-judgmental space to discuss how to balance personal responsibility with spiritual surrender.
