Is it not time to surrender to Allah?

The Exhaustion of the Self-Centered Life We are taught from a young age to be “in control.” We believe that our happiness depends entirely on our own efforts and our own intelligence. This creates a constant underlying tension. We are always “on guard,” fearing the moment something goes wrong. This state of perpetual struggle eventually leads to burnout, anxiety, and a feeling of being spiritually drained. We are like someone trying to swim against a massive current, wondering why we are so tired.

The Concept of Taslim In Islamic spirituality, surrender is called Taslim. According to the Glossary of Islamic Terms, Taslim is the act of “submitting” or “handing over” one’s affairs to the Creator. It is the root of the word Islam itself. Surrender is not a sign of defeat; it is an act of supreme intelligence. It is the recognition that our knowledge is limited, while the knowledge of al-Alim (The All-Knowing) is infinite. When you practice Taslim, you aren’t giving up on life; you are giving up on the illusion that you are the one in control.

The Call of the Heart The Quran asks a hauntingly beautiful question: “Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah?” This is a call to come “home” to your Fitra (innate nature). Your heart was designed to be at peace through its connection to the Divine. Every hardship and every moment of emptiness you feel is often just a nudge, asking you: Isn’t it time to stop running? Isn’t it time to let go?

The Freedom of the Surrendered Soul The moment you surrender, you experience a profound sense of Sakina (tranquillity). The heavy burden of “what if” and “if only” is lifted from your shoulders. You move from a state of friction to a state of Falah (success/well-being). You still work, you still dream, and you still act, but you do so with Tawakkul (trust). You find a legendary kind of Sabr (patience) because you know that whatever happens is part of a Wisdom you can trust. You are no longer fighting the current; you are being carried by it.
