The Search for a Solid Foundation Every generation thinks they’ve discovered something completely new. We follow influencers, modern philosophers, and social trends, hoping they have the answers to life’s big questions. But trends change, and what is “right” today is often “wrong” tomorrow. This constant shifting can leave us feeling unstable. To find real direction, we need to look at the people whose values stood the test of time.
The Concept of the Sabiqun In the Quran, there is a special group of people called the Sabiqun. According to the Glossary of Islamic Terms, Sabiqun refers to “those who are ahead” or the “pioneers.” These are the individuals who embraced the truth when it was difficult and unpopular. They didn’t wait to see if it was trendy; they followed their Fitra (natural disposition) and recognized the Haqq (truth) immediately. They are the “firsts” because of their courage and priority.
Success Through Following The path of the Sabiqun leads to a state of Falah. The glossary defines Falah as “success, prosperity, or luck,” but in a spiritual sense, it refers to the ultimate success in this life and the next. By following the example of the early pioneers of faith, we aren’t just copying old habits; we are adopting their Khuluq (character) and their Ikhlas (sincerity). We are learning how to be leaders by first learning how to follow the right examples.
The Reward of the Foremost The Quran promises that those who are “foremost” in faith will be “foremost” in the presence of the Creator. This is a reminder that our goal should be to lead in goodness. When we align our lives with the values of the Sabiqun, we find a sense of Sakina (tranquillity) because we are no longer chasing the approval of the crowd. We are walking a path that has already been proven to lead to peace.
